Sri Ganganagar Railway Track Blast: Explosion Near Pakistan Border Triggers Security Alert
A railway track blast near Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar, close to the Pakistan border, has triggered a security alert. Two sleepers were damaged, trains cancelled and ATS, FSL and other agencies launched an investigation.
According to preliminary information, a passenger train had passed through the same stretch approximately 45 minutes before the explosion. Investigating agencies are examining the circumstances surrounding the blast and trying to establish whether the incident was intended to disrupt railway operations or target a moving train.
Following the incident, police, railway officials, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams reached the spot. Evidence is being collected from the site. However, authorities have not officially disclosed who was behind the explosion or what its intended objective was.
According to available information, the passenger train travelling from Anupgarh Junction to Suratgarh passed near 50 GB village at around 9 pm on Tuesday night, November 3. Approximately 45 minutes later, at around 9:45 pm, a powerful explosion occurred on the railway track. The sound of the blast was heard across the surrounding area.
After hearing the explosion, residents of nearby rural settlements reached the location and found the railway track damaged. They immediately informed the police. Subsequently, Ram Singh Pur police station personnel and local officials arrived at the site and began an investigation.
Given the location of the blast near the international border, security agencies are treating the incident seriously. However, before the investigation is completed, it would be premature to describe the explosion as a terrorist conspiracy or attribute it to any particular organisation.
Two Railway Sleepers Damaged; Investigation Teams Examine Blast Site
According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Senior DCM) Virendra Joshi, two railway sleepers were damaged in the explosion. After receiving information about the incident, teams from the railway's engineering and security departments reached the location.
Officials from various railway departments, including the ADRM, were present at the site. Their immediate priority is to assess the condition of the track and ensure passenger safety.
Meanwhile, ATS and FSL teams also reached the location and began their investigation. The forensic team collected evidence from the blast site, while a bomb disposal squad was also called in. Investigators are attempting to determine what type of material was used in the explosion and the circumstances under which it occurred.
Two Pairs of Passenger Trains Cancelled for Passenger Safety
Following the explosion on the railway track, the Railways cancelled two pairs of passenger trains as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety. In addition, the Bathinda-Anupgarh train was short-terminated at Suratgarh station.
Railway officials are closely monitoring the condition of the track and the operational arrangements following the incident. Normal train services will be restored only after the track inspection and necessary repair work are completed, following which a decision will be taken regarding the resumption of operations.
Passengers travelling on the affected route have been advised to confirm their train status before leaving for the railway station.
Will Investigators Examine the Possible Terror Conspiracy Angle?
The explosion on a railway track near the India-Pakistan international border has prompted security agencies to examine all possible angles. Given the possibility of a suspected terrorist conspiracy, there is also discussion about the potential involvement of central agencies. The possible participation of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been reported, although no official confirmation has been issued so far.
As part of the investigation, agencies may examine the explosive material, evidence recovered from the scene, the movements of suspicious individuals and their possible contacts. The possibility of involvement by Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI or terrorist networks is also among the aspects that may be examined. However, based on the information currently available, the involvement of any organisation or individual has not been established.
Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar said that the investigation is underway. Police and other agencies are working to establish the cause of the explosion, identify those responsible and determine the possible motive behind the incident.
Investigators are primarily seeking answers to several questions, including what material was used to cause the explosion on the railway track, whether the objective was to disrupt train operations or target a passenger train, and whether any suspicious individuals or activities were noticed in the surrounding area.
Agencies are also examining whether the incident has any connection with an organised network or handlers operating across the border. Another important aspect of the investigation is whether there was any lapse in railway track security.
With two railway sleepers damaged and passenger train services affected, the investigation is focused on establishing the exact circumstances behind the explosion, identifying those responsible and determining whether the incident involved a wider security threat in the sensitive border region.
